In automotive fuel systems, the supply pipe typically delivers fuel from the tank through the filter to the engine's fuel rail for temporary storage, then to the injectors for mixing with air upon energization; the return pipe sends excess fuel back to the tank—the two serving distinct roles, with the supply pipe generally having a larger diameter than the return pipe.
